Hard to believe, but we need to start planning for the 2008 Girls Volleyball Banquet. It's a tradition of the program that we celebrate both seasons with a banquet honoring the girls of the JV and Varsity teams.
Here is how it works: We usually ask parents/coaches to find a few locations that can host a banquet on a tuesday-friday night. The site must be able to host at least 100 people, provide the food and a microphone system/projector. We also need a cost for the site (usually it is priced per person).
Once we have a few sites we let the members of the JV and Varsity teams vote with the understanding if the vote is close the varsity team preference will win out. If the varsity team vote is close, the seniors vote breaks the tie. The coaches also have some input as well.
I'd prefer to use this site (and thread) to communicate information about the banquet as all parents and players should have easy access to reading the information.
So moving forward, can we try and get estimates from a few sites around the Montgomery County area. I've already heard one parent is looking at Brookville Inn. Anyone else is welcome to investigate as well. I'll likely call 1-2 places as well.
please post any information you find out here. Coach Z

Do we have a preferred week or day for the banquet? I can check the Cracked Claw again this year - they have a nice banquet room upstairs and away from the rest of the restaurant. I don't know if Frederick is too far, but they are pretty reasonable and also accomodating.

I'll check with Vinnie at Montgomery CC. Thanksgiving is 11/27 so maybe 11/18-20 or 12/1 - 4?

Those dates look okay. The wildcard is we are still working on setting the date for the senior all-star game at Magruder. Once I know that we can narrow down to specific dates.
So far from what I know we have people looking at Montgomery CC, Brookeville Inn and the Cracked Claw. Any other places people can think of?

We need to make a decision next week so anyone investigating a location please let me know the details. I'm taking a look at Dave and Buster's, Buca di beppo and the Golden Bull.
Anyone who has information on costs, pricing, etc. for a specific place please post it here. As of this moment I only have the costs, food selection choices, etc. for Dave and Busters.
Dave and Busters has a variety of choices in the $20 range. The choices around this price range include (ie: pick one!): -roast beef, salad, potatoes, vegetable ($20) -beef brisket, chicken, chips/salsa, baked beans ($20) -steak/chicken fajitas with beef/chicken tacos, spanish rice, chips/salsa ($19) -pizza bites, miniburgers, chicken tenders, chips/salsa and queso ($18)
Update---just found out that Dave and Buster's DOES NOT include the tea, soda, coffee OR the tax/tip so it would likely be another $5/person. So looks like mid $20's/person.

Barbara Rempe talked with someone at That's Amore (Shady Grove). They offered us $22/person. That includes drinks (tea, soda, coffee), salad, bread, 2 choices of pasta, one meat dish and a dessert (chocolate torte I think).
So we now have two choices.

Vinnie @ Montgomery CC couldn't find our menu from last year but gave me the following options/examples. They can mix/match but it appears that one meat/two pasta is in the $22 range while adding a 2nd meat/2nd pasta is $27. Price is all-inclusive. Here's what she shared from other recent banquets:
o $22 - Tortellini w/Marinara, Chicken Parm, Fettuccine Alfredo, Salad, Green Beans, Rolls/butter, Iced Tea/Lemonade
o $27 - Roast Beef w/Burgandy Demi-glaze, Chicken Parm, Pasta w/Marinara, Fettuccine Alfredo, Salad, Green Beans, Garlic Bread, Iced Tea/Lemonade

Green beans??? Ugh. I have a phobia with green beans.
Seriously though, thanks Bill for getting this info. If anyone else has a place they want to post, please do so. I'd like to have them all by the end of the weekend so early next week we can decide.

Is it the Green or the Bean that's so objectionable? Maybe they can sub baby carrots just for you!

I just spoke with the banquet coordinator at the Cracked Claw (in Urbana). They can do an all inclusive banquet for $20 per person (we need to give them the school's tax exempt number and they won't charge us tax). For this price, this is what we would get: - tossed salad - rolls and butter - choice of 2 vegetables (grren beans, glaxed baby carrots, sugar snap peas, a veggie medley, broccoli w/cheese, and corn) - choice of 2 potatoes (parsley, au gratin, mashed w/gravy oven roasted red skin, and baked) - a pasta dish (pasta primavera, lasagna, baked penne with Italian sausage, spicy tomato and shrimp linguini) - fried chicken - a top round beef with carver
the chicken and beef can be substituted with homestyle meatloaf, flounder almondine, or shrimp creole over rice.
Also included is nonalcholic beverages (soda, iced tea, coffee) and tip. They're very accomodating and will work with us if there's somehtng else we would want.
They have availability on Nov. 17 and 18th and Dec. 1,2,3,and 4. The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays, but they will open for a banquet (which might be nice).

Diana, Thanks for researching this. Nice menu, but green beans? Again?
Okay, so now have 4 options. Dave and Busters, Montgomery CC, That's Amore and Cracked Claw. Good choices. Personally, I think Dave and Busters is the least attractive option. It's going to be $4-5 more/person than the other places and the food/setting won't be as nice. Just my opinion though.

Pat Chapin found one more local option. It's the Brookeville Inn. Cost is around $26. Menu options are: Choice of 2 (Top Round of beef, pasta with alfredo/marinara sauce, grilled herb/honey chicken, penne pasta with chicken, red onions, squash in a basil cream sauce and baked salmon), salad, roasted potatoes, fresh veggies, soda, coffee, tea, dessert.
All JV and Varsity players will be given an information sheet with the menu options today (10/21/08) to take home and discuss with parents. We will ask players to bring back the sheet with their choice. The location will be announced by the end of the week.

Coach Krampf and I tallied up the votes just now. The overall vote was close, but That's Amore was the winner (it had the most overall votes and the varsity team voted overwhelmingly for it along with 4 of the 5 seniors).
Thank you to Barbara Rempe, Dianna Hirrlinger, Bill Musser and Pat Chapin for all findings nice places to choose from. Your time and effort is appreciated!
We are in the process of determining a date sometime between November 19th and early December. Menu will be set once we have a date. As soon as we have a date I'll post it.
I can promise there will be no green beans....
