Our match with Damascus is a "Dig Pink" event. This means that the Side Out Foundation is sponsoring the match as a way to raise awareness and money for breast cancer. This event has been created by Damascus volleyball and is being fully supported by Magruder volleyball. Here is what is taking place: 1. In place of admission, all fans will be asked to make a donation to the Side Out Foundation. 100% of all donations will go directly to the Side Out Foundation and their breast cancer prevention/treatment programs. 2. Fans are asked to wear pink to the match. 3. Players must wear their uniforms, but are asked, if possible, to wear something pink (socks, hair scrunchy, etc.) Additionally, Damascus has setup a donations website where people may make an additional donation. The link is: www.sideoutvolleyball.org/mainevent/minievent/DamascusHighSch/I'm sure it will be a great night. Coach Zanni

In support of the "Dig Pink" night when we play Damascus, the MHS coaching staff will be wearing some specially made tie dyed pink shirts. The MHS team, led by senior Christine Suh, will be creating them for the coaching staff to wear. Credit for the idea goes to noneother than Geoff.

Scott, Can the girls wear pink ribbon pins on their uniforms? I can pick up some ribbon this weekend and make pins for the JV and varsity if they are allowed to actually pin something to their uniforms. Otherwise, I can just get ribbon that they can tie in their hair. Molly can bring them in on Monday and distribute at practice.

They can't wear anything that is hard like a pin. Hair ribbons would be great. Geoff probably would want one as well...

Okay - Molly will bring in pink hair ribbons Tuesday for the JV and Varsity teams. She'll give the JV ribbons to Coach Zanni in the morning and she'll bring the varsity ribbons to the match. And Geoff can have his pick of ribbon - there's even enough if he wants to wear two pigtails or french braids!

Wow, what a night! Two good teams battled hard on the court tonight. Both teams played well at times and struggled at times, but they certainly played hard. Match analysis will be posted on the main site tomorrow.
More importantly, over $1000 was raised for the SideOut Foundation. This money will go directly to breast cancer research. All of the credit for setting up, planning and organizing the event goes to Brandie Couch, Damascus's head coach. She set everything up and spent hours getting approval, lining up workers and planning for the night. Brandie emailed me about sponsoring/promoting the night, which we readily agreed to do, but the credit really goes to her.
I'm very appreciative of the Magruder volleyball community for supporting this event. I know Brandie is as well. Thanks everyone!

I would like to thank you all for the coming out to our first DigPink match. It was a great success with over $1000 in donations! Thank you for not only for your financial contributions, but also for wearing pink. MHS girls, you went above and beyond the call with homemade pink shirts and ribbons....and you even got your coaches in on the pink . Good luck with the rest of your season!

Actually the pink coaching shirts were Geoff's idea (I disagreeistant coach). The shirts were made by Magruder players Christine Suh, Kim Lam and Torri Kenno. They did a nice job (especially on Geoff's!)
