All good things must come to an end and I believe it's time for this forum to be retired. While this site was once very popular with frequent posts, quality discussion and interaction (along with occasional intense disagreements), over the past few years the volume of posts, the traffic to this site and the general interest has dropped off. It appears this type of online forum is dated and has run its course.
I started this site over 10 years ago with the idea that the volleyball community would have a place to go online and discuss local high school volleyball. I hoped that the players, families, coaches and fans would enjoy having a place to promote and discuss our local volleyball scene. Other local sports had such sites. Some still do (MoCo Running, MoCo Football, etc.) and others have gone away.
Given the lack of interest here the last few years I believe this site has run it's full course. It's time to end. There simply aren't many posts and almost no discussion. Perhaps the absence will allow something newer, more modern and better to take it's place.
A special thanks to Bill Musser. He volunteered his time for many years to run the local rankings. He did this for no pay and long after his kids were done playing in MCPS. I think this was one of the most popular parts of the site. Thanks Bill!
The tentative plan is to leave the site up and active for the remainder of the girls playoffs and post season. This will include coverage of the senior all-star game on December 5th, the posting and discussion of all-county teams.
Then sometime after January 1, 2020 I will pull the entire site down and it will cease to exist.
Thanks to all who've been a part of this journey. Coach Zanni

I remember as a parent who knew about zero volleyball, I would come browse these posts back in the day just so I could talk to my two daughters as they grew through the volleyball pipeline. It's a bummer to see this go but I agree that it is time - I surely hope that this is not a sign that Maryland/MOCO volleyball is on a downward trend. I hope players that continue to play in college and above return to MOCO one day to give back to this awesome community and to continue growing the game.
Thank you Coach Zanni for not just running this blog all these years, but for also all you've done in promoting this sport in the area!

Thought I would check in to see how the regular season went and read the scuttlebutt on the playoff predictions. Sad to see it end.
Thanks again Scott and Bill for the many years dedicated to sharing info and engagement in MoCo Volleyball.

Well, one last post. Here's what I have for the 11 years of Power Score records! The Power Score is the team's Power Scores averaged across the years 2009 to 2019 while the Wins/Losses are the totals across those same years. MCPS Girls Volleyball MoCo Power Score 2009-2019 Team Avg Set Record Match Record Team Power Score Win Loss Set Win % Win Loss Match Win % --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sherwood 83.17 430 98 81% 141 26 84% Magruder 79.74 450 104 81% 163 22 88% Northwest 78.13 405 121 77% 126 32 80% Damascus 76.17 396 133 75% 127 30 81% Wootton 70.77 413 194 68% 132 50 73% Gaithersburg 66.83 351 193 65% 104 53 66% WJ 64.57 370 229 62% 115 60 66% Poolesville 63.79 341 190 64% 103 51 67% Churchill 63.49 376 223 63% 120 54 69% Richard Montgomery 57.76 356 272 57% 109 80 58% BCC 56.02 326 278 54% 96 77 55% QO 52.19 316 272 54% 96 88 52% Whitman 51.31 288 293 50% 80 91 47% Blair 50.29 308 279 52% 93 83 53% Blake 45.80 257 293 47% 78 89 47% Clarksburg 41.40 243 326 43% 69 103 40% Paint Branch 40.67 243 347 41% 74 114 39% Rockville 35.59 219 366 37% 64 118 35% Watkins Mill 34.03 188 350 35% 50 108 32% Northwood 27.77 164 384 30% 42 122 26% Springbrook 26.38 148 392 27% 42 122 26% Seneca Valley 22.56 120 397 23% 29 128 18% Kennedy 22.54 126 426 23% 33 144 19% Einstein 17.28 95 426 18% 23 136 14% Wheaton 16.31 97 440 18% 20 146 12%
I was surprised at first that Sherwood was atop the list but in thinking back, they had quite a great run of success from the Katie Obal/Clair Kodan led teams in 2005/06 (pre Pwr Score) followed by the Alex Holsten era and highly competitive teams between and after!

Thanks Scott for all the time you have maintained the forum! In its active years the forum was a great place to discuss and debate the local VB scene. Although I haven't stopped by as much since my daughters aged out of MOCO volleyball, I still lurked and followed the discussions.
Thanks Bill for all your work on the Power Score as well! (And coaching Kellie in club, LOL)

On a separate note, thank you for maintaining this through the years. It was nice to have a place to discuss teams back in the day and joke around with the other players during the boys season.
