Magruder finished the 2017 season with a 19-3 record (12-2 regular season) before losing to state finalist Westminster in the sectional finals. Magruder also won it's 12th MCPS County title. Returning to the team are all-county selections Kaliyah Moss (1st team) and Maya Scott (HM). Magruder will play in the MCPs Red Division and 3A West along with hosting their annual tournament on 9/15.
Key Questions for Magruder? -can they remain among the top teams in MCPS and challenge for a 3A regional and state title? -who are their key players? -how has the preseason gone?

There is no doubt Magruder can compete offensively with the best teams in the county and probably the state with not only Khaliyah Moss and Maya Scott but strong front row players Sarah Schaupp (OH), Lindsay Nyunga (MH), and Sami Sagar (RS). They also are an overall very strong serving team, returning two of their top servers from last year in Schaupp and Sagar. The questions will be, can their defense and serve receive be consistent enough to match up against the best teams.

Another five setter for the Colonels tonight in Gaithersburg. What’s going on on Rockville? Not sure what you mean... The five setters Magruder has won were against Sherwood (who is a good team), North Hagerstown (also a very good team who has won 3 state titles this decade plus had the advantage of playing at home) and last night against Gaitherburg. It looked to me Gaithersburg played very well most of the match and Magruder did not play as well for long stretches of time last night, and especially some key player(s) had an off-night. Don't forget the girls are not professionals, they are high school student athletes and even professional players have off-nights. Magruder's team is talented enough that they can win with a total team effort with the bench making major contributions last night. The bottom-line is Magruder found a way to win, just like the previous 17 matches...
