Below are the pools for the Westminster HS tournament (Sat 9/9).
Should be a good test for Damascus and Sherwood. Both are in tough pools (A: Westminster and St. John's; C: Atholton and South River). Those may be the top six teams in the tourney, but only the top 2 in each pool make the playoffs.
Pool A
1 St. John’s College HS
2 Urbana
3 Damascus
4 Westminster
5 Carlisle
Pool B
1 Seneca Valley
2 Good Counsel
3 Williamsport

RESULTS from Mason-Dixon tourney are below. Pool play was two sets to 21. Top 2 teams from each pool made the playoffs (6 teams total). Top 2 overall teams received a first round bye in the playoffs. Playoff matches were best of 3 sets to 25 (to 15 in tiebreaker). General observation: this was a VERY competitive tournament. All 15 teams were solid - no pushovers - and some look to be among the best in the area/state. The playoffs, in particular, were tense, exciting, and loaded with talent and spectacular action. Congrats to the St. John's Cadets for winning the title.
Pool Order of Finish (Set Record):
A 1. St. John's (6-2) 2. Westminster (5-3) 3. Urbana (4-4) 4. Damascus (4-4) 5. Carlisle (1-7)

C 1. South River (6-2) 2. Atholton (5-3) 3. Waynesboro (4-4) 4. Sherwood (3-5) 5. Tuscarora (2-6)
PLAYOFFS First round byes: St. John's and South River

Great sounding tournament and great summary. May be the most difficult tournament in the state and love the fact teams from outside of MD play. Congrats to St. John's for a great tournament win!!!
One quick note/clarification: the set record for each team in tournament play determines who advances in the playoffs, but each team also accrues match records throughout the tournament that are recorded by MPSSAA/media outlets. For example, Damascus went 4-4 in what appears to be a very tough pool, but their match record from the tournament would be 2-2 as they swept two matches (St. John's and Carlisle) and lost two matches (Westminster and Urbana.

Yes, Damascus went 2-2 in matches (losing close in their first two, then playing much better in winning their last two). That pool was indeed very tough. And I have to think that you're right about the tournament being the most difficult in the state. I'm not familiar with the Baltimore area teams, but from what I saw and what little I know, I would put South River, Westminster and Broadneck (4A), and Atholton (3A) up against the very best teams in Montgomery County. Broadneck - of note - has nothing but underclassmen, and I wouldn't be surprised if they win the state title ... in 2019. Damascus was very impressive; they might have won the pool (or at least made the playoffs) if they played in their first two matches the way they did in their last two. And - while DHS might not be quite in the same tier as the top 4A teams in the county - it seems like they should be among the favorites to win the 2A title. St. John's and Good Counsel represented the private schools very well. Obviously, St. John's won the whole thing; but Good Counsel was solid, too; they were just a few points away from beating both Broadneck and Williamsport (the tourney runner-up). Sherwood, on the other hand, did not look very good; it may have just been a bad day, but they struggled mightily against the better teams (they were 1-2-1, but got outscored in the one match they tied). I would encourage more MC teams to play in this tourney next year, if possible. It was incredibly high-level of volleyball.
