You can catch the following Magruder alumni playing in college this year. It's quite an impressive list!

Rachel Dougherty (Division 1-US Naval Academy)-Rachel is entering her senior year at the Naval Academy. She has been a starting outside/rightside hitter since her freshman year. She consistently is among the top blockers and attackers in the Patriot League and has won player of the week honors. Additionally she has been an outstanding student, being named the ESPN All-Academic teams.

Sarah Dougherty (Division 1-St. Francis)-Sarah Dougherty is entering her junior season at Saint Francis. She has been a member of the varsity team for three season, primarily as a defensive and serving specialist. As a sophomore she was among the team leaders in aces and serving. Caitlin George (Division III-NC Wesleyan)-Caitlin is entering her senior year at NC Wesleyan. Caitlin has been the starting setters since her freshman year. As a junior she set the school record for assists in a career and assists for a single season. She is set to graduate in May with a degree in sociology.

Kelly George (Division III-NC Wesleyan)-Kelly George is entering her freshman season at NC Wesleyan where she will be teammates with her sister Caitlin. Cindy Goon (MC-Rockville)-Cindy is entering her freshman year at Montgomery College-Rockville. She will compete for playing time as a defensive specialist and setter. The website for the MC-Rockville team is-http://www.montgomerycollege.edu/Departments/athletrv/wnvolly.html

Taylor Herrgott (Division III-McDaniel)-Taylor Herrgott is entering her sophomore season at McDaniel. As a freshman she earned a starting spot as a middle hitter and was among the team leaders in hitting and blocking. She earned honorable mention all-league honors. Rebecca Russell (Division II-Shepherd)-Becca Russell is entering her sophomore season at Shepherd University. As a freshman her time playing as a middle hitter/rightside hitter was limited due to contracting mono. She is looking for to being healthy for the entire 2007 season. Congratulations to Annie Belott who recently made the Salisbury University team (Division III). Annie is going to be trained as a DS. The website for Salisbury's women's team is www.salisbury.edu/athletics/volleyball/default.asp

Magruder alum Rachel Dougherty was named the Patriot League player of the week for the second time in her career. Currently she is leading Navy in almost every hitting category and is among the national leaders in division 1 for serving aces.

Alumni Update
Magruder has seven alumni currently playing collegiate volleyball. Two MHS alum, Rachel Dougherty and Caitlin George, are finishing outstanding collegiate careers. Rachel Dougherty is finishing her senior year at the US Naval Academy with a flourish. This week she was named the Patriot League Volleyball Player of the Week for the second time in her career. She is currently among the Division I leaders in aces and is leading Navy is kills, hitting percentage and total points. She has an outside shot of setting the school record for kills in a season as well. Fellow 2004 grad Caitlin George is also in the midst of finishing an equally successful career at NC Wesleyan. Now in her fourth year as a starter, she is among the USA South conference leaders in assists and aces. She holds the school records for assists in a career and assists in a season. Caitlin has also been the team captain for the last two seasons.
Sarah Dougherty is a junior playing Division I volleyball at St. Francis University. Sarah has seen action in a majority of the team matches as a serving specialist and libero. This is her third year on the team. Rebecca Russell is a sophomore playing at Shepherd University (a Division II school). She has played in all but one of their matches this year and is fourth on the team in kills and blocks. Taylor Herrgott is also a sophomore playing at McDaniel College (a Division III school). Taylor is a starting middle hitter for the second season and is leading the team in kills and blocks and is third on the team in hitting percentage. She also is second in the Centennial Conference in blocking.
Finally, two MHS alum are freshmen playing this year. Kelly George has earned the starting libero spot at NC Wesleyan (playing alongside Caitlin). She is among the team and conference leaders in digs and has made an immediate impact as a freshman. Annie Belott worked very hard over the summer and had a great tryout at Salisbury, making the team as a walk-on. Annie has appeared in 11 of the teams 25 matches, all as a defensive specialist or libero. In those 11 matches she has 19 digs and only one reception error.

Update on MHS Alum playing in college

Rachel Dougherty---I've documented this elsewhere on this site, but she has twice been named the Patriot League Player of the Week and was also named the East Coast Division 1 Player of the Week. Currently among the Division 1 national leaders in aces/game (24th in the country) and kills/game (74th in the country). Currently among league leaders in aces, aces/game, kills/game, kills and hitting percentage.

Caitlin George-recently recorded her 1000th assist for the 2007 season. Currently ranked 2nd in her league in assists and in the top 10 in aces. Team is currently fourth in her league. Latest article on their website is here: annex.ncwc.edu/athletics/volleyball/2007-08/news/30mbc.htm

Sarah Dougherty---playing as a libero and serving for St. Francis. Team stats are not available online.

Taylor Herrgott---leading McDaniel in blocking and kills. Team is currently undefeated in league play and has a good chance to win the league title. Taylor is among the league leaders in kills and blocks.

Rebecca Russell-team is currently 6-17. Becca is 4th in kills on the team and 6th in blocking. She is playing a majority of the games.

Kelly George---currently tied for 8th in digs in her conference. Has been the starting libero all year and appeared in every match for NC Wesleyan. Her sister is the beneficiary of all her good passing...or so she says.

Annie Belott-has played in 15 matches as a freshman and is averaging nearly a dig a game. Also among team leaders in serve reception percentage.
