I've received a few questions about All-County. The teams will be voted on and selected by the MCPS coaches in late November and released a day or so later. The teams will be posted online here and at least two on-line publications.

I find this list disappointing and totally biased. This must mean your daughter didn't make a team.

I think it is a good list. Caroline Leng and Anya C could have made the top team but with injuries the coaches put them on HM. Tough call but probably right. Skylar T also could have been higher maybe but the DS/L girls on the first and second teams are just as strong. So the voting looks good. Thanks coaches. Great season to all the state winners and finalists.

To snowflake who has decided to be make my comment about this list being biased personal: My daughter made the list but unlike you I care about the fairness to other girls. There were a lot of girls who were standouts for their teams but did not go to states who should have made the list. There were some girls who made the list only because their team went to states. I was just stating my opinion, you were just being snarky.

There were a lot of girls who were standouts for their teams but did not go to states who should have made the list. There were some girls who made the list only because their team went to states. I was just stating my opinion, you were just being snarky. I agree that the original comment from "snowflake" was very snarky and rather rude. I'm not condoning that in any way. However, who would you remove from the list? I'm partially serious here. Obviously I don't really want you to name people, but essentially you are saying some of the kids on the list aren't deserving and should be removed for others not on the list. Remember, each team (1st, 2nd, All-County) have to have at least one player for each position (OH, MH, L and S). Worse, you then stated that the coaches were biased in selecting this list, yet you offer no proof of bias. None. If you disagree with the list, great. No one ever agrees 100% with any all-county team. One can disagree without attacking the integrity of those involved. You can even mention players you think were deserving of recognition. Personally, I'd applaud that. The simple act of posting their names here provides them with some recognition. That's one of the main purposes of this site. Finally, I'd point out that when the Gazette closed, it was the last of four local papers that used to select all-county teams (Gazette, Examiner, Post, Journal). They are all gone. When this happened the coaches voted to step up and replace them so all-county teams would continue. Coaches who participated in this process met for over an hour to discuss and select 33 players. As one of those roughly 20 individuals, I can attest all involved took this responsibility with great seriousness.

Scott, my intent was not to upset you or anyone else. I apologize if you thought I was attacking the coaches personally. I was stating my opinion based on my past experience with this list and my familiarity with many of the players during the season and off. Also I stated my evidence when I said some girls on the list made it because their team went to states or did not make it because their teams did poorly or did not make it to states. Also some girls were ranked higher or lower because of this. I am not going to name anybody specifically and I also not going break the lists down. People can make their own judgements based on their belief and past experience. I also know some coaches advocate for their team/players more then others which is just the nature of the system. I am grateful the coaches take their time and continue this tradition but unfortunately when the papers put out the list, it seemed (to me) to be less biased which is only natural. But again, I am only stating my opinion and like you said you can agree or disagree with me but everyone is entitled to their opinion, including me. That said, I want to leave on a positive note and say all the girls should be recognized for their hard work this season.
