Damascus had an outstanding 2015 season, finishing the year 19-4 (regular season 12-2), winning a division and regional title before falling to undefeated Northern High School in the state finals. Coach Ronquillo returns with a very experienced squad. Can they repeat their 2015 performance? Who replaces graduated middle hitter Sarah Brady? Who is the main competition for Damascus this year?

Damascus' passing and setting should be very good ... the Sarahs (Bowers and Noland) are strong defenders, and their setter Leonie (who was very good last year) should be even better this year with another year in high school (and in this country) under her belt after moving here from Germany. They only had four real hitters last year ... and they lost three of them (Brady and Murray graduated; Larson transferred to Good Counsel). f*gan is very good and will be busy this year; Gruber may give her some help in the front row, but the Hornets may not have enough offense to repeat the great season that they had last year.

Olivia f*gan and Isabelle Nelligan are strong hitters. They will put many team to task.

Comments from anyone who attended the Damascus win at Sherwood last night? Damascus is deep and talented again this year. They have very good players attacking and defending throughout their rotation. I think Isabel Nelligan is a steady, impact player that sometimes is overlooked when talking about the top players in the county.

I echo the last post and wonder if anybody can share details of the Damascus 3-0 win over Sherwood. Way to go Damascus. But was it Damascus strength and tenacity as usual or has something happened to Sherwood this year?
