Blair posted their 2nd straight winning season in 2015 with an overall record of 13-8-1 and a regular season record of 9-5. The only change to their schedule is replacing the Blake tournament with the Magruder Invitational. So what does 2016 look like for the Blazers? Coach Klein is back again at the helm and leads what should be a pretty veteran team. Can Blair make a run at a division or sectional title? If so, who are their key players to lead them? What are some of their key matches this year? Who has Blair scrimmaged and how have those scrimmages gone?

Blair still has their perennially-terrific defense. This year, they have a couple newbies with some height to help with their usual liabilities at the net. Maggie Wang is amazingly effective offensively for her height (5'-5"-ish?). They're made up of mostly underclassmen so they'll be among the best in the County for at least the next two years.

There are a few notable players at Blair: Maggie Wang was Metro 16 Travel team Libero, Ariel Zhang was Maryland Junior Elite Black team Libero, Maggie Lin was last year's Capitol Hill Classic Tournament 15s Club division best defense player. Catherine Rodriguez played in MVSA 15s team and is a triffic setter and hitter. Katheryn Wang is a hitter that played in MVSA. She aced, killed many balls yesterday although she was sick. Tiffany Mao is another hitter that played club volleyball and contributed many kills to the team. Jasmin and Joean are two seniors that are strong defense players and good servers.
This year, Blair got three tall players, including two 6' freshmen and one 5'10 sophomore. They are a great boost to Blair's net play, as proven in this tournament and in the regular season matches they have played.
Speaking of Maggie Wang's attack efficiency: in the pool play against Quince Orchard (Blair won in 2 sets), Maggie Wang made 14 kills out of 25 total attacks with a hitting efficiency of 44%. This number is comparable with the best hitters in the county who are typically 6 feet tall.
It was a good tournament and many teams and players played well. In my recollection, Paint Branch's Libero was very impressive as well as Rockville's #10 middle blocker. Quince Orchard played especially well and demonstrated strong endurance and fighting spirit. They beat the popular home team in the semifinal and won Blair in 3 sets in the final, many times fighting back from multiple points behind.
Good luck to all teams for the rest of season!

Nice to see some players get some recognition here.
