The 14th Annual Senior All-Star Game has been scheduled for Thursday, December 3rd at 7PM at Northwest High School. As usual, this game will feature 24 of the top seniors in MCPS and also serve as a charity event. To date the game has recognized over 300 student-athletes and donated over $16,000 to local based charities.
This year 100% of all proceeds will be donated to L-Dub's Love in honor of Gaithersburg volleyball Lauren Weller. Lauren was a standout volleyball player at Gaithersburg and later Frostburg. While at Frostburg she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. After a brave and long battle she passed away in 2011. Her mother, family and friends created a non-profit charity to raise money for families fighting childhood cancer. Their mission statement is:
It is the mission of L-Dub’s Love, Inc. to provide travel resources to children, and their families, receiving treatment for pediatric cancers or at end of life at the National Institute of Health’s National Cancer Institute (NIH-NCI). L-Dub’s Love, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, understands how important it is to have family support during treatment. We believe that the family is essential in the healing process of each child. No child should be without their family at the hospital, which is why our mission is to provide travel resources for the nuclear family of the child receiving treatment.
Put the date on your calendar. It should be a great night for volleyball to help a great cause. Coach Zanni
