Blair vs. Richard Montgomery: 25-17 25-27 25-16(?) 25-5 During the first game, RM was not playing well together, and the second game was very close. In the middle of the third game. Brendan Chang (4) was injured blocking a hit and had to leave. Afterward RM did not play well, and Matlock was forced to experiment with a different lineup for the fourth game, confusing everyone.

Brendan Chang (4) was injured blocking a hit and had to leave. Afterward RM did not play well, and Matlock was forced to experiment with a different lineup for the fourth game, confusing everyone. The first game, RM team seemed to be very tired and out of sync. They also missed a lot of serve and allowed Blair taook the first game without much fight. The second game RM started playing better and the game was very close from begining to end. Shortly after the third game started, RM's outside was injured when blocking a Blair's hit. The score then was 4 to 3 with Blair taking one point lead. The injury forced RM to take a time out. During the time out, Blair's coach also came over RM's side to help stablizing RM hitter's injured hand. Because most focus was on the injury, RM was not ready when the Ref whistled for the game to resume. At this point, Blair's coach exhibited the best sportsmanship - instead of letting RM use their second timeout for this instant, he called a time out even though Blair did not need one. With RM's middle became a much better middle hitter, this match whould have been much closer and exciting. Unfortunately for RM, losing their top player, RM not only lost a big part of their outside hitting power, their defense and passing ability were also weaken significantly. Congradulations to Blair for being the better team tonight.

WJ vs Sherwood or Blair in the championship will be close, though.

I'd like to remind everybody who posts on this board that this is a place for volleyball discussion, a place to encourage the growth of the sport, and not a place to make comments that are neither helpful nor informative.
It's fine to have and make opinions, just don't make them without being ready to back them up with valid and legitimate support.
When pointless conversations start happening where all that's being said are snide remarks to the other person and honest volleyball dscussion has taken a back seat, I hardly think that puts volleyball in a positive light.

Having played both Wootton and WJ twice (through pre- and post-season), I believe that Wootton is the superior team, by a slight margin. WJ relies strongly on the prowess of it's outside hitters, and can become predictable. Wootton runs a varied offense, utilizing very effective hits from the weak side and outside. Neither team has a particularly strong middle attack, but both teams put up a strong/tall block. Thus, the advantage goes to Wootton because they can force the WJ middles to read the set and move in both directions. Both teams have fairly good passing and good defense, but again I'm inclined to give a slight edge to the more experienced Wootton team. WJ is capable of getting on runs when they control the pace of the game, but I believe that Wootton is the more capable all-around team for long rallies. Wootton also has a general height advantage, which becomes more pronounced in tight playoff games when it comes to controlling the net (despite the great vertical of many of the WJ players.) This match will come down to Wootton being able to control the WJ outside hitters, and WJ playing tough defense and putting passes on target.

Last year I read regularly on this site from many analyzing how RM was not an elite team or capable of beating any of the other top teams. Many of these comments appeared to come from "players" from other teams.
What I found ironic about last year is the lack of respect RM got on this board was followed by their winning the county title. So now this year it appears a few schools are again getting little respect on this board. Be interested to see how it plays out.
I know as a coach I'd be very upset if my players posted anything overly negative about another school on a discussion board. The best way to prepare for a match is to respect your opponents and realize the game is won on the court, not anywhere else.
I do like some of the analysis I've seen here on the site (Hollies comes to mind).

Watched the excellent match today between Blair and Sherwood; Sherwood won in five as you all know by now. A very back and forth match, with both teams getting runs. Overall Blair seemed to have some difficulty passing, but Robert Huang's excellent setting created opportunities for the Blair offense, which found the most success when hitting high off of a sometimes-soft Sherwood block. On the other side, Sherwood played scrappy defense to slow down the persistent Blair offense and create opportunities for themselves. Sherwood OH Dainis Berzins was a force capable of controlling the match. Blair did a good job of putting up a solid block in front of him on almost every set, including the play sets. Despite this, he converted a high number of sets into kills for the Warriors, including a key string to finish the fifth game. Hock and Chiogioji (I hope I spelled that right) also helped to anchor the Sherwood offense with hits from the strong and weak side. For Blair, it was a combination of Andy Zhang, and Robert & Ricci Huang, that generated the most kills. Zhang was a weapon from everywhere on the court, similar to Berzins for Sherwood. Ricci, the OH2 for Blair, was a very consistent, smart hitter that put pressure on the Sherwood defense to stay ready. With both teams running an effective offense based on their respect outside hitters, the match was ultimately decided on the overall consistence of the Sherwood team. Both teams played excellent, scrappy defense, but Sherwood was able to control the ball better, and get a set back to one of their primary hitters more often, courtesy of setter Matt Cuozzo. Blair made a number of tough digs against Hock and Berzins, but ended up having to free-ball it back over, giving Sherwood another attack. It should also be noted that many of the key players for Blair are not seniors, so expect them to have another strong season next year.
