Red Division Sherwood has won this division. This is the 4th county division title Sherwood boys have won in the last 5 years.
White Division If Magruder defeats Watkins Mill tonight, they win this division. If Watkins Mill wins there is a three way tie for the division title. There is a tie-breaker procedure, but I don't know what it is off the top of my head.
Blue Division Blair is currently leading this division with a 3-0 record. Gaithersburg, Walter Johnson and Wheaton all have one loss. Since this division has 7 teams it will take a little longer to determine the champion.
Gold Division If Wootton beats Kennedy tonight they win the division. If Kennedy wins, we have a three way tie (Rockville being the third team). Again, I need to see what the tie breaker is for the division title.

Any idea why there is a blue division? What is the significance of this color?
Maybe divisions should be named after the coaches who have been around since the start of Boys volleyball in Montgomery County. Hsiung, Matlock, Zanni. HA!

The county chose Red, White and Blue because they are the colors of the American flag. Gold is a state color. Some sports in MCPS use names. I don't think volleyball should go that route. Plus I'd point out that Hsiung and Matlock have been coaching for much longer than some others...

So I'm from clarksburg, and I was wondering ssince magruder lost to watkins mill in 4 and watkins mill lost to clarksburg in 4 and clarksburg lost to magruder in 4, what exactly determines who is division champ; what are these tie breaker procedures.

If Watkins Mill really beat Magruder tonight ... AND all 3 teams went 4 games against each other as stated ... THEN I think it should come down to the won/loss record against other teams in their division. Anyone know how the teams did against others in their division?

Yeah, magruder did lose to watkins mill in 4, from what I heard, and I know we (clarksburg) have beaten everyone in the division in 3 except magruder and watkins mill. I also know that magruder went to 5 games against quince orchard (in our division). I don't know watkins mills stats but I doubt they could've lost a game to anyone else in our division. So if what you said is correct it should be down to watkins mill amd clarksburg then right? But from there, then what? Would the overall season record determine who won the division?

Actually, if we do it that way, Magruder and Watkins Mill are actually tied for win/loss records within our division. We are both 13-6, since Watkins Mill also won against Quince Orchard in 5 games. From what I'm hearing from here, Clarksburg should be 13 - 4(I think).
But personally, I don't think the winner should be determined based on win/loss records. It's way too simple and indefinite. If anything, it should be determined by more matches against each other. But, I don't know how that would fit in our schedules.

Memory says to me it should be a three way tie (based on all three teams being 4-1 in the division) because the county only looks at matches within division and not games (sets). That by no means is official. No one should make any bets off of my memory.
I'll let all involved know tomorrow for sure. The tiebreaker formula is in an MCPS athletics handbook I have at school.

Sherwood and Wootton have won their divisions. Blair continues to lead their division.
Magruder, Clarksburg and Watkins Mill all finished 4-1 in their division and the county has declared a three way tie for the division championship.

Now what will happen? RM beat Blair tonight in 3. How will the blue division champions be decided?

Now what will happen? RM beat Blair tonight in 3. How will the blue division champions be decided? Same guidelines. If two teams are tied, it's their head to head result. If three teams are tied, it's their head to head results (matches only). If all three teams are tied, the county declares three division winners in this division. That would make a total of 8 county division champs, which might be a county record for any sport. Took a quick look at the Blue division this morning. All the teams have at least one match left. Three teams are 4-1 right now (Blair, WJ and RM). If all three teams finish 5-1, there will be a three way tie as all three teams were 1-1 against each other. If Blair and WJ finish tied, Blair wins based on their head to head victory. If RM and Blair finish tied, RM wins based on their head to head win. If RM and WJ finish tied, WJ wins based on their head to head win. I should add that there is a very remote possibility of a four way tie (same tie breaker using head to head results of all tied teams). IF Blair, WJ and RM all lose they will all finish 4-2 as will Wheaton. So the short answer to your question is that it's a mess...

See czmplayer ... it's NOT as easy @ it sounds. Mr. Zanni made it sound simple w/ his final answer but I think he went thru the same things w/Clarksburg, Magruder & Watkins Mill. Congrats to all Division Champs so far!
Anyone know when playoffs start? Should be some pretty good games!
