Magurder boys are doing decent this year, 4-0 is a very good outlook to starting there season. One win is from Seneca Valley, which really can't say much. I'm predicting a loss sometime this week, i hear clarksburg has a strong/decent offencive like usual

Congrats on the wins. 6-0 is a big accomplishment. I believe there are a couple other teams also in that mix. Wootton and Blair come to mind. I know Wootton beat RM which is a major notch in their belt. Blair has handed Wheaton and Walter Johnson their only losses so I would give them a nod as well, though not as big a nod.
I hate to say it but I think time will tell a different story for Magruder. Clarksburg is the most respectable win and they were the only team to lose to a higher seed in last years tourney. The division is weak. Good luck Monday but my crystal ball says 3-0 Wootton.

Although it is true that Magruder does have an easy first half of the season, But it doesn't mean they should not receive a "nod". QO was undefeated until they played Magruder. They defeated Clarksburg which was the strongest team in their division(from my POV). Also they play Watkins Mill on Friday, which means their record would be 7-0 and undefeated in the Division also. Weak division or not these boys deserve to win their division after the games they put up. The Divisions were set up randomly so you can't blame them for having a "weak" division. As for games next week you never know, sports if full of upsets. Magruder will play Wooton, Blair, Sherwood the same week, Definitely the toughest week they will play this year, But I am willing to bet that Magruder will give all 3 of the teams a run for their money. Colonels is led by one of the most consistent player in the County I have seen this year (#16). His Jump Serves amazing, his Hitting are consistent(even with a setter that isn't consistent)and he can also can pass, As for defense they have two brothers in the back that can dig as good as any libero in the County(#22,#1). Just my 2 cent, and as for Monday my crystal ball tells me 3-2 Wooton on Monday not 3-0 Lols Go Colonels

Just a clarification. The divisions are not setup randomly.
MCPS ranks the schools (1-25) based on the overall record of the coed AND boys teams each of the past two seasons. They then use the rankings to attempt to create relatively balanced divisions, but also use geography as a factor.
So to be more accurate, MCPS attempts to balance divisions using past performance, but also taking geography into account. It's certainly not perfect, but that's the process.

I had also gotten this impression from one of coach zanni's other post, thank you for the clarifacation. I also do admit to us having a relatively "easy" first half of the season but it doesnt mean we can't play well. I would like to say my team does have one heck of a schedule next week and yes we may have our downs when that inevitable loss hits us smackupside the head, but thats no reason that i can't keep my team poitive and smiling through our hard runs. I like to think Magruder is not a one man show like so many people say it is; I depend on the team so much, it's not even funny if something were to happen to one of them

Even though this question was posted for the boys competition, you need to give credit to the coed team. Aside from the top boys teams of RM, Sherwood, Blair, Wootton, and some others than can be argued... the boys competition is pretty much boring.
I played for my school's boys team for three years straight so you can't say I'm being biased.
For a girl to play back row and defend against some of the big-hitting boys who play for coed, that's something most boys can't even do. I mean, remember Ryan Mulsteff and Kyle Nail from Damascus? Matt Florian and Hoss Hewitt from Sherwood? Daniel Bryan, Aaron Wong, and Alex Li from Magruder? Even Wootton with Tony when he played on the coed team. They're pretty big hitters.
And all this talk about Michelle Fowle? Didn't she lead all the girls in the county in kills? AND take Magruder to the State Finals? No boy in the county can say they've done that. So it's not bandwagoning... there's just some truth to it. Over the past few years, Sherwood, Damascus, Poolesville, and Magruder have posted a number of girls who can hit on a boys net just as well as any boy can. True, not as strong, but still praise worthy for their ability to do so.
So, yeah... QO Boys team going all the way? Hardly. Not when you can't even beat the Magruder (6-0) team. Who for the past few years have been at the bottom of the county.

Well about the boys part, yes, Magruder Boys have been in the bottom for some time. However, you should take into consideration that me and my twin bro(#1 and #22) have been playing for a good chunk of our lives, but this is our first year playing on the team as senior starters.
I'm not saying we're some kind of "secret weapon" or some groundbreaking addition to the team, I'm just saying that the Magruder Boys team is very new, so it's hard to tell what'll happen based on past performances.
But I'll admit, we(or I, at least) are very inexperienced on how to play REAL volleyball, as well as to how to play under pressure. Next week's games against Wootton, Sherwood, and Blair will be an interesting experience, regardless of whether the odds are on or against our side.

the boys competition is pretty much boring. Wow. Obviously you are entitled to your own opinion however wrong it may be. I would love to know which Boys' Volleyball games you have been watching.I played for my school's boys team for three years straight so you can't say I'm being biased. Maybe your boys team sucked and your coed was decent. Then I can understand maybe your first statement about boring. For a girl to play back row and defend against some of the big-hitting boys who play for coed, that's something most boys can't even do. Simply not true, at all!And all this talk about Michelle Fowle? Didn't she lead all the girls in the county in kills? AND take Magruder to the State Finals? No boy in the county can say they've done that. So it's not bandwagoning... there's just some truth to it. Over the past few years, Sherwood, Damascus, Poolesville, and Magruder have posted a number of girls who can hit on a boys net just as well as any boy can. Michele is an excellent girls player, no doubt. BUT, there is no boy state championship so thanks for pointing out the obvious. Hitting just as well as a boy, seriously? When a girl touches 12' and hits straight down, no matter how hard, come talk to me. There really is no comparison. The girls do have more experience and more opportunity than the boys. There are 4 or 5 local girls club volleyball teams. 1 for the boys. They can start very young and play through high school. The 4 years boys play in high school is not enough to make up for that experience. I am sure they are more consistant on a whole than the boys but the top boys are much better than the top girls.

Archer is obviously confused. Thanks for pointing that Madame!! We've been thru this before: 1) You can't compare Coed to Boys - 2 different sports w/ diff. rules. 2) Boys DON'T have the opportunity to take their teams to States - Mont. County is only county w/Boys & Coed vball. 3) Far more opportunities for girls to play than guys (& to start earlier). 4) Curious to know what school Archer plays for - I'm sure also you went to Coed cause your boys team wasn't good (hence your quote of boring boys). 5) Boys vball has gotten better over the years. I'd rather see Boys JV & V in the Spring (rather than Coed) so the Boys would have a greater chance to develop their skills. 6) Finally it would be nice to see Boys Vball a sport in every County.

To this point only Sherwood and Wootton are undefeated which wasn't that far outside the predicted. There are some other teams which no one seems to be talking about though that have been playing really well and that would be WJ and Springbrook (funny that no one really mentions 2 top teams). I would actually expect that this point that the top 4 seeds include those above with perhaps Blair or Wheaton mixed in there. There are a lot of good teams out there that no one is talking about, and to all the teams that are still undefated, don't look to lightly on them.
