Seven former Magruder girls volleyball players are participating in NCAA collegiate volleyball this coming season. They include:
Annie Belott-Annie is entering her junior year at Salisbury where she has been a member of the team since her freshman season. Annie will continue to play as a defensive specialist/libero and is pushing for more playing time in arguably the best Division III school in Maryland. Salisbury was ranked in the NCAA Top 25 last year and reached the NCAA National Tournament ROund of 32.
Alex Coleman-Alex is entering her sophomore season at Frostburg. She will be playing both middle hitter and opposite positions. With a season of college volleyball experience she should also push for more playing time this year. Frostburg is also coming off a successful season having won their conference and advancing to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
Caitlin George-Caitlin George returns to NC Wesleyan for her 2nd year as an assistant coach. She says she learned a lot in her first season as an assistant coach and is being granted more responsibility this year. I think she has the coaching bug. Runs in her family as well. Caitlin still owns all the major setting records at NC Wesleyan.
Kelly George-if you are wondering if Caitlin and Kelly are related they are. Kelly is entering her junior season at NC Wesleyan where she has been the starting libero since her freshman season. NC Wesleyan finished near the top of their conference last year and was ranked #2 in their preseason conference rankings.
Taylor Herrgott-Taylor is entering her senior season at McDaniel College (Division III) where she has been a standout player since her freshman year. As a middle hitter Taylor has earned some type of all-conference award each of her three seasons including first team all-conference as a junior. McDaniel is looking to challenge for a conference title this year.
Rebecca Russell-Becca is also entering her senior season. This year she is a team captain at Shepherd University, a Division II school. Becca will primarily play as an opposite this year and is currently starting for her team. Becca is excited about entering her final year and looking to help the program continue to improve.
Corri Smoot-Corri is entering her freshman year at West Virginia Wesleyan (a Division II school). She is playing middle, but the coaching staff is also exploring her playing some opposite as well. Corri is adjusting to the college game and looking forward to playing Shepherd later in the season (they are in the same conference).
Several alum are also playing club volleyball. They include Kimery Musser (Maryland), Sam Nash (West Virginia) Stefani Schaper (James Madison).
Best wishes to our alum as they get on the court this fall. If you are one of them and stop by, write us a note to let us know how you are doing.
