Sorry! "Brandon Wong" from RM boys is actually Brendan Chang from RM. BTW, there are 2 Brendan's on RM and neither of them have the last name Wong... nor do they spell their name "Brandon".. =P

Hey Sam, sorry about that. I wasn't sure what your last name was, so I kind of just went off of the Gazette article and assumed that they had it right.
During the photo shoot, the guys from the Gazette read the list of first teamers because some didn't show up and they said "Brandon Wong". Chances are, they probably got it wrong as usual. So I'm sorry for any of the mistakes and please feel free to correct me if you find anymore. Thank you!

Hey Mr. zanni , i am having trouble understanding how this whole thing works but i do have some questions. Why isn't there a coed and boys team separately? Why aren't girls chosen and What are the criterias for being selected as all county?

Hey Mr. zanni , i am having trouble understanding how this whole thing works but i do have some questions. Why isn't there a coed and boys team separately? Why aren't girls chosen and What are the criterias for being selected as all county? Here's how it works. After each match both coaches participate in voting for all-county using a point system where a coach can only vote for players on the opposing team. So if Watkins Mill plays Gaithersburg, the Watkins Mill coach can give 1, 3 or 5 points to any Gaithersburg player and vice versa. After the voting is done each coach gets the ballot for their team back. Coaches are then supposed to send me their ballots to the sport director. For boys volleyball that's me. For coed it's Wanda Hsiung at Kennedy. We total them and send to all media outlets (Washington Post, Gazette, Examiner, Digital Sports, etc.). The next part is important. The actual all-county selections are made by the media. The state of Maryland and MCPS does not allow all-star selections so the media is left to do it. Thus ultimately the actually selections are in the hands of the reporters that cover the sport. How much they use the county balloting is obviously up to them. To answer your specific questions about why the Gazette doesn't have an all-county team for boys and coed volleyball or honor girls you'd have to directly ask the Gazette as ultimately these are their decisions. I do know that the Gazette tends to think the girls already are honored during girls season so they only honor those who they believe are the best male players (boys or coed). They also used to only select boys who played boys volleyball. A few years back they started including boys who play coed. Hope this helps answer some of your questions.

how do they choose the player of the year for the all gazette team? because im sure almost everyone on the all gazette team had gotten 5s from each coach Same way they choose everyone else. They use the voting as a guide and then the reporter(s) involved making the selection use their subjective opinions. For the record no player in MCPS received all 5's (at least for boys volleyball).
