Personally, I still think it would be much better for volleyball in general if we could separate boys and coed from each other so ALL the best boys could have a chance to play against each other at one point during the year. Just like the girls do in the fall. The organizers of this game actually have the opportunity to give "ALL the best boys a chance to play against each other at one point during that year" but they are choosing not to. What are they afraid of, that one of the coed boys will be overcome by an uncontrollable urge to come up from the back row to block? Excluding the boys that played coed from consideration will only serve to make the game less than it would otherwise be.

I greatly appreciate all of those who have put their time into organizing a senior all-star team for boys volleyball as it is an under-appreciated sport in Montgomery County. I just don't understand why it is unreasonable to include the boys from coed on the team as well as the boys from boys. As the Gazette only picks from the boys on the coed side and not the girls for the all-county team I don't see why one has to worry that anything will get carried away. I just feel as though you are punishing the boys who chose coed over boys. I'm sure many would defend this and say that there is equal competition in Coed volleyball and boys across the county. Especially as many of the best players in the county do play on the coed teams, calling coed a junior varsity sport I find is very offensive. Are you saying you would not include Ryan Mullsteff, Tommy Young, Neal Muradymo, Cody Burns, Steven Hollies just to name a few from last year and this year. Leaving out the coed boys is leaving out half of the talent of boys playing the sport of volleyball in Montgomery County. I mean i have nothing against boys that play on co-ed but if you guys want to play with the boys on Boys team why don't you just joined Boys than. Like coach Zanni said Co-ed coach can start their own Senior game too. Its really simple if you want to be recognized as one of the best boys player than play with boys. Seriously now come on your playing with a bunch of girls. A girl block and a guy block is like 5x different. Come on now your going to tell me a girl can block better than boys? Its like a Co-ed Basketball, Lebron James playing on a co-ed team and Kobe playing on a all Boys team. Come on now :] Kthxbai!

Excluding the boys that played coed from consideration will only serve to make the game less than it would otherwise be. Maybe they are afraid they would have to take a boy off of every coed team because of the stats. I am sure the kill percentage/ number of kills per match/ aces per match/ etc are way inflated for boys that play against girls when compared to boys who play boys. The previous poster makes a good point. You can't be judged as an NBA player when you play in the peewee league. Coed dad - Look out for the next coed dad with the same problem. Write a letter asking that your son not have to chose between playing coed and boys, it isn't fair. Matt Florian - I heard (could be a false rumor) you wanted to play boys this year. Would have been quite an amazing team. Why didn't you? Is it true there were several coed boys at sherwood that also wanted to play boys? I can't imagine they were cut...

Excluding the boys that played coed from consideration will only serve to make the game less than it would otherwise be. I understand some of the frustration I'm sure the coed players/coaches feel. Again, I'm not involved in organizing the game. I'm simply commenting on the reality of this. Coed and boys ARE two different sports. They are run differently, have different rules and use different strategies/techniques. Those are facts. If the larger issue for coed players/parents/coaches is to recognize their outstanding coed players, then the coed coaches can do the exact same thing the boys coaches are. They can organize an all-star game for their sport. If the issue is wanting to have all the best male players play against each other as coed dad mentioned, then the guys always have the option of playing boys volleyball instead of coed. Finally, I'm sure we can have this conversation without calling people out or some of the namecalling that some of the anonymous posters have done. If that continues, I'll simply lock the thread and stop this line of discussion.

I bust my butt to put the best team on the court every year. i build a program my keeping young talent on the bench so i can have them for the next year. I work a volleyball camp during the summer to learn new drills and techniques so I can bring them back to my team. i agree that Coed should move but there is nothing i can do about this now? My players should not be penilized for wanting to play with Girls on there team especially if you have a chance to play with your sister. I understand that ther already was a girls all star team and that girls should not be included. My Girls are filled with club players while my boys are recruited off soccer and football. My grils are always the better skilled players year in and year out.

Um excuse me Mister Coach Scott Zanni sir I could not find the roster anywhere on the website, is it TBD? If the rosters were online I would have posted them. I provided two links where there is more information about the game and I would guess the rosters would eventually be posted. I believe the rosters have been selected. Not sure if everyone has been notified yet.

Entire conversation is ridiculous. 1st of all to Coach Siarkas. You really think you are the only coach who busts their butt to make their team better? I'm sure about every coach in the County for every sport has the intention of putting together the best possible team they can.
To the dad & Coach Siarkas ... organize a coed game yourself. I commend & thank the boys coaches who have put together this effort to recognize Senior players while fundraising for a worthy cause. Support it people! Stop complaining about it! You want a coed All-Star game? Sounds like Coach Siarkas & dad should head it up!
As for coed vs. boys volleyball ... 2 different sports period. You can't compare the 2. NO reason a boy who decides to play coed should be recognized with the boys. If that recognition is SO important to you in the 1st place ... well - play w/ the boys to begin with! Nobody has ever called coed a JV sport. Their athletes are just as talented.

I coach 3 sports and also have 2 kids under the age of 3. I wish I had the time to run a All-star match. I think the boys coaches who put this together is doing a good thing for the sport of volleyball. I'm just fighting for my Boy and Girl Volleyball players.
