Once again this year the 25 MCPS coaches will participate in selecting the Player of the Year and the All-County teams. When the last local paper that covered volleyball fulltime shut down there were no more media outlets that annually gave out awards to players. As a result, the MCPS coaches have annually selected teams. This will be the third year.
The coaches will meet on December 4th and select a Player of the Year, a first team, second team and honorable mention all-county. The players will be posted here shortly thereafter.

I have a feeling that Jenaisya Moore wil be MCPS player of the year again! Side note, I just read an article about her and that she's going to announce her college commitment after Thanksgiving Break! (She has apparently almost 100 offers)!

Yesterday the MCPS Coaches met and selected their Player of the Year and All-County teams. Each all-county team must have at least one player from each position (OH, MH, S and L/DS). Here are the teams. Congratulations to all the girls who were named to one of the teams!
Player of the Year: Jenaisya Moore (Northwest) First Team All-County Rachael Bennett (Northwest) Malaina Galic (BCC) Elizabeth Hsieh (Wootton) Kaliyah Moss (Magruder) Olivia Personeni (Whitman) Laila Rogers (Richard Montgomery) Maya Scott (Magruder) Kristin Yee (Poolesville) Second Team All-County Jessica Baniak (Quince Orchard) Michelle Bennett (Northwest) Taniyah Epps (Walter Johnson) Kyra Feinauer (BCC) Sara Gruber (Damascus) Chloe Hum (Wootton) Catherine Rodriguez (Blair) Serena Xu (Churchill) Honorable Mention All-County Kaylen Bernota (Damascus) Kate Burk (Walter Johnson) Emma Eustace (Sherwood) Cecilia Groves (Damascus) Delaney Johnson (Quince Orchard) Emily Klaus (Quince Orchard) Paige Krawczel (Rockville) Chloe Maciejewski (Whitman) Kira Ng (Magruder) Ottavia Personeni (Whitman) Gabri Puertas (Richard Montgomery) Elizabeth Sharkey (BCC) Erin Szumlas (Walter Johnson) Itxaso Ezcurra-Taiganides (Wootton) Natalie Tai (Wootton) Kayla Tomas (Blake) Elisabeth Yost (Gaithersburg)

My only criticism is that this is more voting “to get your player in” than actually evaluating the best players. If there was a tryout for 1st, 2nd, 3rd team etc this would look different.

Interesting statement as since there are not really any media or "independent" groups covering high school volleyball so this is the coaches selecting the all-county players so yes in effect this is voting but I would imagine just like selecting the players for the senior all-stars game, players were nominated and then voted on by the coaches to select the teams Honestly, even if there were an "independent" group selecting or even a tryout there would still be "criticism" because in the end it comes down to someone or some group's opinion

When will the All Met Teams be announced? Today. www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2018/12/18/fall-all-met-volleyball-first-team-second-team-honorable-mention/?utm_term=.495856c36d92Jenaisya POY, as expected. No other MCPS players on the first team; only one on the second team. Four schools had multiple players named to the top two teams. In fact, of the 16 1st/2nd teamers, ten of them came from just four schools (!!): Chantilly (3), Flint Hill (3), Paul VI (2), and St. John's (2). I am familiar with about 2/3 of the players, and can't say that I see any who are not deserving of the team/honor that they received. However there are a few girls who were NOT on the list, that I would have expected to get some recognition, at least as an honorable mention ... specifically, some of the girls who were first-team MCPS.

I think in the past All-Met named more honorable mentions than this year with only 16 so that could be why there were only two MCPS players listed. It does seem like NoVA was rather disproportionately represented though

I don't know why, but the number of players named Honorable Mention this year is very small compared to previous seasons. Typically in previous years somewhere between 25-45 kids have been named. I think this year it was 15 or so.

Were all the coached there to vote? Wootton gets 4 total players on the list with 19 set loses. BCC and Magruder only had 3 players with 8 and 9 sets lost all year. And it looks like Damascus also had a better season (power score) and only got 3 players.

This was my point exactly. It was more of an effort to get players in from each coaches team. BCC beat Wootton twice and only lost to the state champions NW in regionals. Again I’m not judging these hard work young ladies, it is the system. The truth is that these girls no it so I’m not really worried about hurt feelings. They all know each other from club and know who plays at each level. At least two girls that were recruited and committed to college did not even make the list. Many of these girls would come off the bench at BCC, Magruder and Dmas. The top teams should have the most players because that’s what made them top teams. If Wootton really had four players at this level then they should not have lost so many sets, especially with such an experienced coach.
