gaithersburg has a pretty strong team, front row and on the back line, with the best serves ive seen from any team so far. i wouldn't count them out of the race

I agree. Gaithersburg should get more respect here.

I would not consider Magruder's division title and number one seed a fall from the top. Neither would I consider Gaithersburg's 11-2 record a bad figure. Yes, all of those teams mentioned did extremly well, but so did the teams that you consider fallen.
By no means did Magruder have a disappointing season in whole.

Poolesville had a great season as well. I think it is wonderful that we have so many teams that are competitive. I would hardly consider Magruder's achievements a fall from the top. Let's applaude ALL of the coaches and student athletes for a job well done! And, let's stand behind our Montgomery County Champs - Wooton and BCC - and wish them well in the State Championships.

I'm still trying to figure out how the accomplishments of a team (take Poolesville for example...16-1 on the season with a county title) can be wiped away by someone in 3 words.
As for my team we played arguably the toughest schedule in MCPS. We played ALL the other top four seeds in 4A and three of the top four in 3A and Good Counsel. Finished with a 20-2 record and a county title. Didn't end the way we wanted, but I certainly don't think we fell far from the top.

Coach,
First of all, i would like to thank you for so many times in these threads taking the "High Road", when clearly many times i am quite certain the temptation to do otherwise is not small.
Magruder had a GREAT season playing a very tough schedule .... and in the process dominated most of their matches .... even against some of the better schools. At times, that domination that took place would lead us as parents and fans to speculate of things that were possible for this team. In that process we develop a level of expectation, forgetting that these are High School Athletes.
By some measure, the season for Magruder ended on a disappointment, and clearly short of the true potential of this team. In REALITY, this team excelled all season long and became the "benchmark" team for all other teams in the county to strive for. The same could be said of Poolesville as well.
In the course of last season and early on in this season i listened to and heard soooooo many conversations regarding how Magruder would just not be the same this year .... they lost too many good players last year and for some the hope was for an average season at best. While Magruder fans would always hope for the best, at least from my perspective and conversations heard, the expectation was not there from many for a great season.
The girls proved them all wrong. I have only been following Magruder Volleyball for the past six seasons now. While Magruder has been blessed with some amazing talent both past and present, i will not speculate on the individual talent level. What i will tell you is that this team in my opinion was the best "team" i have seen. This year's team is not without some excellent players, but they way they stuck together as a team, worked together as a team, won as a team, and in the end ... lost as a team, made them in my opinion the best and most fun to watch of any i had seen to date. (there could be a small amount of bias in this opinion, but i think many would agree).
Magruder did not fall from the top this season, but ROSE to the top as a team.
Parents and fans will always want to speculate on who is the best, who can beat who, what will we be like next year, and so on and so forth. This is all part of the fun of being a fan and a parent. Bragging rights are parentally coveted and rightfully so. Sometimes in this process, we are not as careful about what we say and do not give proper due and credit to others as they deserve. As long as we are not malicious towards other teams, there is nothing wrong with supporting one's own team .... even to the point of a measure of "trash talk", again ... done without disrespect.
Congrats to you Coach Zanni, and most of all .... congrats to the team. No matter how the season ended .... it was a fun ride .... and this TEAM not only met my expectations, but exceded them.
Thank You

anon, dude - if you're going by how "far" a team went in play-offs, how is damascus rated higher than gaithersburg and magruder in your mind? they all lost in the same round, yes? they were all good teams. play-offs aren't the only measure of success. (sure is nice to win, though , but let's face it, only 4 teams end the season on a win, so coaches know that can't be the only valuable thing in a season.) and, steve, i'd accuse you of kissing up to scott but stef is graduating, so your i'm sure your sincere comments are much appreciated.
